What to Expect

Whether you're brand new to swimming or looking to take your skills to the next level, we have something for you at our Aquatics Open House.

Open House Activities

  • Free Swim Evaluations — our instructors assess your swimmer’s current level and help you find the right program fit.
  • Swim Team Tryouts — Karishim Swim Club tryouts take place right at the event for swimmers interested in competing.
  • Meet the Team — chat with our coaches and instructors and get your questions answered in one place.
  • Tour the Facility — see our indoor pool, locker rooms, and the full JCC campus. No membership needed to attend.

Meet the Team

Adrian Negenborn

Senior Aquatics Director

Adrian, originally from Cleveland, OH, has a lifelong passion for swimming. He began his competitive swimming career with the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins as an age group swimmer, later continuing at Hawken School and Skidmore College. With over 20 years of experience in the aquatics industry, Adrian has held various roles, including swim instructor, Masters Swim Coach, and Aquatics Director. He is dedicated to making a positive impact in his community through his work in aquatics, fostering a love for swimming and teaching this vital life skill.

Beyond his work in the water, Adrian also has a strong background in art. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and enjoys painting when he’s not on the pool deck.

Lauren Gale

Head Coach, Karishim Swim Club / Director, Karishim Swim Camp

Lauren is a graduate of Bridgewater State University, where she excelled in swimming, teaching the Swim for America program and serving as head lifeguard and captain of the swim team for three years. She also has experience in coaching swimming at the South Shore YMCA. In addition to her passion for swimming, Lauren holds a degree in nutrition & wellness, which has led her to focus on the connection between a healthy lifestyle and positive long-term outcomes for children.

Aquatics FAQs

Do I Need to Be a JCC Member to Attend?

The Open House is free and open to everyone regardless of membership status. It’s a great way to see the facility and meet our team before committing to anything.

What Should My Child Bring to the Swim Evaluation?

Bring a swimsuit, towel, and goggles if you have them!

Is This Event for Children Only?

The Aquatics Open House is geared towards children’s swim programs, but we do offer Adult Swim Lessons and Masters Swim for ages 18+.

How do Karishim Swim Tryouts Work?

Tryouts take place in the pool during the Open House. Swimmers are evaluated on stroke mechanics and endurance by our coaching staff. You’ll receive feedback on the spot and hear from Lauren about next steps.

Do I Need to Register, or Can I Just Walk In?

Registration is strongly encouraged so we can plan evaluation slots and avoid long waits, especially for Karishim tryouts, but walk-ins are welcome.
