Learn the basics of hand-built pottery inspired by spring. Before potters had the wheel, coil, slab, and pinch methods were the primary ways artists developed their clay work. In this two-session workshop, students will practice these core techniques and learn how to embellish their pieces using leaves and flowers to create unique decorative imprints.
During the first session, participants will practice their skills and create a piece ready to be bisque-fired. In the second session, participants will paint their pieces using underglazes (like watercolors). If you’ve ever been interested in trying your hand at ceramics, this is the perfect opportunity to explore hand-built pottery.
This class is suitable for all experience levels; no prior experience is required. All necessary materials will be provided ($30 materials fee payable to the instructor). Feel free to bring your favorite plant or flower or select from the instructor’s samples. Workshop will run on May 4 and 11.
Final fired pieces can be picked up at the JCC approximately one week after the workshop is completed.
Please note: Because pottery is a hands-on and experimental process, pieces may occasionally crack or break at different stages. While the instructor offers guidance and care throughout, finished results can’t be guaranteed.
All are welcome. Geared towards adults. Questions Adultprog@jccgb.org.
Photos may be taken during the session and used for promotional purposes, including social media. If you prefer not to have your photo taken, please inform staff when you arrive.
