In support of Boston Jewish Film, join us for an advance screening of Discovering Ruth.
This film tells the story of Holocaust survivor Ruth Wertheim Bacow through the perspectives of Jens Hausner, a teacher from Ruth's hometown of Londorf, Germany, and Ruth's children, Larry Bacow and Lainey Simonson, who preserved their mother's only recorded audio testimony. Other voices include those of Ruth’s lifelong friend, Hannelore Noé, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor, as well as German descendants from Ruth’s village. Filmed in Germany, Poland, and the United States, the bilingual (English/German) documentary runs approximately 50 minutes and features an original score from Bleeding Fingers Music, the Emmy Award-winning composer collective founded by Hans Zimmer.
The film will be followed by a panel discussion with Larry Bacow, President Emeritus of Harvard University, Ceci Chan, Producer, June Beallor, Producer-Director, and moderated by Nancy Gibbs, Lombard Director of the Shorenstein Center at Harvard University.
A pre-event reception with the panelists will precede the screening.
