Health & Safety

JCC Greater Boston takes the welfare and safety of staff and children very seriously. Over 99% of our staff have been vaccinated. We have aligned all of our operating procedures with guidance from the CDC and the state. Our practices include ensuring proper physical distancing, sanitation, hygiene, and use of face coverings, when appropriate, to promote the health of our staff and program participants.

ABOUT CAMP GROSSMAN

Camp Grossman is a day camp located in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation.

Camp Grossman welcomes over 1,500 campers and 300 staff each summer. If you are looking for the Best Job Ever and live in the Greater Boston area, or have a place to stay in the area for the season, we would like to hear from you!

The team is a dynamic group which works to create a wonderful experience for children while assisting them in building confidence and skills. Our alumni can tell you: Camp Grossman is an amazingly enjoyable place to spend your summers while developing skills such as communication, leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork- all valuable skills that will serve you well in future jobs.

Orientation begins June 21, and the regular camp season runs Monday-Friday, June 26-August 18. There are three staff meetings on various Monday evenings throughout the summer and most counselors and staff also work 1 or 2 additional family nights or overnights, depending on their position in camp. There is also an optional 9th Week of camp which runs August 20-August 25.

Activity Specialist

Help create a joyful, memorable summer working with children in a beautiful day camp setting! Camp Grossman employs Activity Specialists for arts & crafts, archery, basketball, boating, climbing wall, drama, dance, fishing, gymnastics, photography, knitting, mountain biking, nature, orienteering, ropes course, sewing, science, soccer, street hockey, video production, yoga-wellness, and many others.

About Camp Grossman and JCC Greater Boston

Camp Grossman, a JCC Greater Boston day camp, is located in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation. Camp Grossman welcomes 1,500 campers and 300 staff each summer. The regular camp day runs from 8:15am-4:15pm. The camp season begins June 26 and ends August 18th. The position commitment also includes pre-camp planning meetings, orientation starting the week of June 19th, and staff meetings on various Monday evenings. Activity Specialists also work one or two additional family nights or overnights, depending on their position in camp.

The Arts

Do you have a love for the arts? Do you want to share your knowledge with others? The arts positions include Arts & Crafts, Ceramics, Jewelry Making, Knitting, Sewing, Dance, Drama, Music, Photography, and Video Production. You would provide lessons in the area that best matches your skill set and interest. Hours are from 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM. This role is a great opportunity for someone who wants to share their love of boating with children while creating a joyful, memorable summer working with children in a day camp setting. Hours are from 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM.   • Develop boating lessons/activity planning
  • Lead age appropriate varied classes and events
  • Ensure camper safety
  • Create a fun/joyful active dynamic
  • Supervise organization, cleaning and sanitizing of boating equipment

  • Manage boats, boating area and supplies. Fleet includes: funyaks, canoes, surfbikes, paddleboards and rowboats.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have completed 10th grade (or equivalent) and be at least 15 years of age
  • Current lifeguarding certificate or willingness to become certified (JCC Greater Boston will provide training)
  • Proficiency in boating – safety rules and techniques
  • Patience, flexibility and a sense of humor. Able to make learning fun.
  • Excellent group management skills
  • Truly enjoys working with children
  • A strong desire to make a difference every day
  • Strong teamwork and relationship building skills, the ability to multitask, the ability to manage situations effectively and diplomatically

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to see, hear and cognitively recognize situations requiring lifeguarding services
  • Capable of working in a high temperature, sunny and high humidity environment for extended periods while wearing required personal protective equipment
  • Able to make safety related decisions and perform CPR and/or first aid, as required
  • Read, write, understand and speak English
  • Must maintain an appropriate level of fitness in order to competently perform all job related tasks including the ability to swim distances and dive to swimming area depths, as determined by testing/certification authorities, and to lift 150 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment
  • Must be able to use a computer

Junior Counselors

This role is a great opportunity for someone who wants to co-create a joyful, memorable summer working with children in a day camp setting. The Junior Camp Counselor will support campers doing activities including arts & crafts, swimming, sports, games, drama performances, camping, and more. Hours are 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Are you someone with lifesaving training and certification or are you interested in being trained to be a lifeguard or swim instructor? This lakeside, team oriented position is a fun way to use your talents while building children’s skills and happy summer memories. Hours are from 8:30 AM – 4:00 PM.   • Ensure camper safety at all times, both in and out of the water, setting tone which emphasizes waterfront safety while encouraging fun
  • Teach children about waterfront rules and safety practices
  • May be asked to participate in planning and overseeing of some general camp activities
  • Depending on assignment, additional responsibilities may include: lifeguarding, providing swimming lessons, managing supplies as well as helping campers develop confidence through mentoring and encouragement

Maintenance and Grounds Specialist

The Maintenance and Grounds Specialist provides a variety of services which result in a safe, smooth running and beautiful camp. Hours are either 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM or 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure a safe, well kept, welcoming environment
  • Interact with staff and campers in friendly, professional manner
  • Grounds work – caring for the lawn, general cleanliness of the camp
  • Repairs (e.g. light carpentry, bulb change outs…)
  • Trash collection
  • Cleaning (per COVID protocols) – equipment, floors, bathrooms and other areas, if identified

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school education or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Willing to learn new skills

  • Great customer service (attitude and follow through)
  • Able to follow verbal instructions

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to properly use all chemicals and equipment per job training
  • Able to stand, bend, squat, kneel

We are searching for an energetic, attentive camp counselor to guide, assist, and motivate campers. Hours are 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.   • Responsible for caring for assigned campers – leading group activities, supporting the group at all activities (sports, drama, climbing wall…) managing both group and individual needs. Overseeing campers during both structured and unstructured time

  • Mentoring junior counselors and counselors-in-training
  • Creating a fun/joyful dynamic

Specialist Assistants

This position is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is inspired to make summertime fun and memorable for children. As a Specialist Assistant, you would have the chance to acquire new talents while assisting a Specialist in the area that most closely fits your skill set and interests. You might help in art, drama, sports, STEM, waterfront, nature, or with other recreational activities. Hours are from 8:15 AM – 4:15 PM. Front Gate Ambassador

Camp Grossman is seeking a full-time Front Gate Ambassador to manage reception at the camp’s main gate.  As the gatekeeper, you would provide a warm, energetic, and friendly welcome to campers and their families. You would also provide redirection to those seeking to use other parts of the Hale Reservation. If you enjoy the outdoors and love interacting with others, this is a wonderful opportunity! The hours for this position would be 7:45 am – 4:40 pm, Monday – Friday.

About Camp Grossman and JCC Greater Boston

Camp Grossman, a JCC Greater Boston day camp, is located in Dover, MA, on 75 acres of the Hale Reservation. Camp Grossman welcomes 1,500 campers and 300 staff each summer. The team is a dynamic group which works to create a wonderful experience for children while assisting them in building confidence and skills. Our alumni can tell you: that Camp Grossman summers are an amazingly enjoyable way to develop great skills such as communication, leadership, time management, conflict resolution, and teamwork. Campers engage in dynamic, fun, and educational activities, including arts and crafts, dance, drama, swimming, boating, fishing, sports, challenge courses, and more!

The regular camp day runs from 8:00 am-4:30 pm, Monday – Friday. The camp season begins June 26 and ends August 18th. The position commitment also includes pre-camp planning meetings, orientation starting the week of June 19th, and staff meetings on various Monday evenings.

ABOUT CAMP KALEIDOSCOPE

Camp Kaleidoscope draws creative youth interested in the arts, science, and the outdoors. Campers are guided in theater, filmmaking, music, culinary, science, sports, and games by encouraging counselors and teachers as they grow and develop their self-confidence and skills. Supportive, experienced counselors and teachers guide campers as they develop and build self-confidence. Camp is fast-paced, nurturing and supportive, as both campers and staff develop lifelong friendships.

  • Provide communications with campers, staff, camp leadership and parents
  • Administer pre-camp orientation meetings for counselor staff

  • Help facilitate arts festivals, theme days, theater presentations, cooking, science, and sports
  • Train and supervise junior and senior counselors working with campers entering grades 4 – 8 and CITs grades 9 – 11.

  • Assist with Upper Camp Theater Productions (2 evenings per summer)
  • Oversee Late Nights until 7:30 PM (2 evenings per summer)

The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the hours employees will work, scope of the position, the candidate’s relevant experience, and internal equity.

Upper Camp Counselors work with campers entering grades 4-8. They teach or assist in classes, activities and performances. Upper Camp positions include general counselors, and leaders in theater, dance, magic, video production, fencing, music, art, costuming, knitting, tennis, boating, D&D (Dungeons and Dragons), LARP (Live Action Role Play), and more.

Outdoor Pool Manager / Part Time (Summer)

Responsibilities of Outdoor Pool Manager

  • Learn and oversee the processes, standards, and requirements to operate the outside pool effectively and safely. Ensure the safety of every pool patron through education, vigilant preventative guarding, first aid, emergency medical services, and rescue services.
  • Monitor outdoor pool and solve problems when and if they arise. Ensure that all staff members are performing their duties to JCC expectations. Create a congenial, collaborative team dynamic.
  • Manage lifeguards, cleaning staff, and other pool staff regarding shift changes, break rotations, and lunch breaks. Make shift changes as required. Oversee weekly lifeguard swims and skill checks. Perform swim tests.
  • Act as a liaison between the pool members and the staff with an emphasis on customer service. Resolve logistical issues and member concerns in a professional manner or escalate them as appropriate.
  • Manage the facility including swim lane changes. Ensure cleanliness and neatness of pool area grounds and bathrooms. Manage the pool and pump house. Specific responsibilities may include chemical maintenance, draining/filling, backwashing, and documentation.
  • Serve as a member of the agency Fitness Staff with responsibilities that, at times, extend beyond the limits of his/her/their specialized functions. Attend training and meetings, as requested. Adheres to JCC protocols (e.g. walkie-talkie, safety equipment, appropriate dress).

Tennis Camp Counselor

JCC Greater Boston is seeking a seasonal tennis camp counselor. As part of this dynamic team, the successful candidate will enhance each camper’s tennis skills. He/She/They will also work alongside other camp counselors to ensure a safe and fun environment for the campers.
