Welcome Baby & Early Parenting

Welcome Baby is a great way for families with babies 0–2 to get to know the Greater Boston Jewish community and connect with each other.

Let Us Welcome You and Your New Baby to the Jewish Community!

Welcome Baby supports families from the very beginning through virtual visits, programs, and events that foster connection, friendship, and community, while also connecting parents to local resources. Through gatherings, celebrations, and shared experiences, families build meaningful relationships and become part of a supportive community of parents with young children. Scroll down to explore programs and community resources available to you.

Welcome Baby FAQs

What are the criteria for receiving a virtual Welcome Baby visit and gift tote?

To receive a visit, you must live in one of these towns in Greater Boston, your baby must be between 0–12 months old, and one parent must identify as Jewish. This is the criteria set forth by our program funder, Combined Jewish Philanthropies.

What if my baby is over 1 year old—Can I still participate?

Yes! Welcome Baby programming is for families with a child 0-2 years old. This is not a hard and fast deadline, and we welcome your continued participation in our many PJ Library and JCC programs for families with children ages 0-6 and beyond.

What can I expect after registration and during a Welcome Baby visit?

A member of our team will reach out to schedule your visit via the method you indicate (text, email, etc.) within approximately 2 weeks of registration. You will find a time that mutually works for your virtual visit via Zoom, and your visitor will send you the link.

During the visit, you’ll meet with a member of our trained staff. Each visit is a unique conversation and is an opportunity for us to share local resources & events that may be of interest to you, and to answer any questions. Our goal is to learn how we can best serve your family’s needs.

How long is a Welcome Baby visit?

A typical visit is around half an hour long.

Does my whole family have to be present for the visit?

No. We are happy to meet with whoever is interested and available. This can be one or both parents, and baby can be with you or not. It is entirely up to you.

When will I receive my gift tote full of toys & baby accessories?

Gift totes are mailed to your home after the completed visit, typically within one to two weeks. Please be patient, as USPS shipping times can vary. We will not send a gift tote until after a visit has taken place.

Is there a cost to participate in Welcome Baby?

The virtual visit and gift tote is entirely free. Programs and meetups may have a small fee-per-family to participate, which helps to cover the cost of food, program supplies, or performers. We would never want cost to prohibit anyone from participating and encourage you to email welcomebaby@jccgb.org should finances be a concern.

Do I need to be a member of the JCC to attend programs?

No, you do not need to be a member to attend or participate in any of our on-site or off-site programs.

What is the Jewish content like at programs?

Our events are predominantly social in nature, with a focus on building community & connecting families to one another. Our programs are based on Jewish values, and we will sometimes incorporate Jewish content via songs, stories, and in other low-barrier inclusive ways, depending on the program. Ultimately, we strive to be a welcoming place for all families, regardless of Jewish observance, knowledge or experiences.
