Audrey Edwards has been at the forefront of JCC Greater Boston's fitness offerings for over 25 years. She is a highly skilled and experienced personal trainer and group fitness instructor, with certifications in spinning, TRX, functional training, Wellcoach, as well as STOTT Pilates. Audrey has a wealth of knowledge in the fitness industry and is committed to ensuring that our members have access to the latest and most comprehensive fitness resources and support.
Meet Matt, our fitness director! He has years of experience in the industry, boasting degrees in Kinesiology and certifications from the NSCA, TRX, and NETA Kettlebell. Matt has all the tools to help you reach your fitness goals, and has a passion for guiding people on their journeys to feeling better than ever. Debra is a life-long holistic health enthusiast, runner, NASM certified personal trainer and Pilates advocate who encourages clients to identify real-life fitness goals and incorporate a functional approach to exercise and healthy living that fits their lifestyle. Currently serving as the Fitness Engagement/Pilates Manager she also holds certifications in TRX training and CPR/AED. Debra is passionate about helping individuals in every stage of life to get stronger and improve their sense of well-being and quality of life.
Bryan is a seasoned personal trainer and coach with over 30 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology and a Master's degree in Gerontology. Bryan's training philosophy is centered on intelligent aging, and he has a special focus on posture, movement patterns, and injury rehabilitation/prevention. He helps clients build a resilient body that can recover and repair itself after surgery, accidents, or chronic issues, allowing them to maintain youthfulness and good health as they age.
Jessie is a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer and a PN1 certified nutrition coach. She has a Bachelor’s degree from Stonehill College, a Master’s degree in Education from Lesley University and is CPR and AED certified. Jessie is passionate about meeting each client wherever they are on their health and fitness journey. She believes that setting goals, making small incremental changes and being consistent will lead to growth and sustainability. Jessie teaches preschool and enjoys strength training, downhill skiing, waterskiing, long walks and cooking. She grew up in Newton and lives in Needham with her husband and two children.
Marianne has dedicated thirty-nine years to strength training and a fitness lifestyle. She considers herself to be a personal trainer in addition to a wellness coach. Marianne takes a holistic approach to training, looking at every component of a healthy lifestyle: mental-emotional, stressors, physical strength, proper diet, nutrition, hydration, rest and spirituality. Her certifications come from the International Sports Science Association: Master Trainer, Fitness Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Specialist in Exercise Therapy, Senior Fitness, Group Fitness, Youth Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and Strength & Conditioning.
Michael began working as a personal trainer in 2002. He is a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association. His approach is to motivate and energize clients to improve their quality of life through improved fitness and to feel better about themselves. For maximum results, Michael develops a plan for each client that integrates the individual’s goals, personality, interests and fitness level. Michael has experience working with children, adolescents and adults with special needs. He grew up in Jamaica Plain where he currently lives.
Jennifer is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) certified personal trainer and is also certified in CPR and TRX training. She is an avid runner who has completed nine Boston Marathons. Jennifer believes in working with weights, cross training and eating healthy. All of these factors translate into her personal training style, encouraging people to have a positive, can-do attitude and reaching goals through a step-by-step process. She encourages her clients to have a great time and love what they are doing when training with her in the gym or taking one of her bootcamp classes. Jennifer grew up in Newton and now resides in Needham with her two daughters.
Jeannine is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She holds personal training certifications through AFAA, AAAI/ISMA and the Institute of Human Performance, and is specifically certified in Functional Movement Screenings. She uses a functional approach to fitness with a strong focus on balance and stability. Jeannine believes exercise should be a fun and challenging time for her clients. She lives in Framingham with her husband and two daughters.
Joan is a certified personal trainer who has worked at the JCC since 2003. Joan enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities to create individualized workouts to help teenagers, adults and seniors achieve their fitness goals. She is a firm believer in a cross-training approach to keep workouts exciting and challenging. She holds certifications in aerobics and personal training from AFAA and FRA. Joan is CPR and AED certified and is a certified spinning instructor, group fitness instructor and TRX trainer. Joan’s hobbies include running (she has completed 15 marathons and 17 half-marathons), swimming and skiing. She lives in Newton.
Ana has been an athlete her whole life, playing soccer and basketball. She played basketball at the collegiate level. Ana graduated with a degree in Health Sciences from Hartwick College and is a certified personal trainer through AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Foundation of America). She has always had a passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, including the impact of nutrition. She enjoys cycling, hiking and strength training.
Jimmy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and certifications from both the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He is both a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Exercise Physiologist (C-EP). His career in strength and conditioning stemmed from playing basketball his entire life, coupled with his interest in sports performance. He has worked with clients aged 13-85, and always focuses on delivering safe and effective training programs for his clients to reach their fitness goals. Jimmy specializes in strength, wellness, and injury recovery and prevention. His philosophy on exercise is that every movement matters, so make every movement your best movement.
Roman is a knowledgeable personal trainer with more than 5 years of experience in designing and monitoring exercise programs based on the needs, goals and abilities of his clients. His expertise encompasses knowledge of holistic health, kinesiology, and exercise physiology. He is an American College of Sport Medicine certified personal trainer, and he also holds an Israeli Wingate Institute personal, group and youth trainer certification.
Linnea has been training for ten years and providing nutrition and running services for seven. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from University of Maine Presque Isle and a graduate degree in Nutrition Sciences from UMass Lowell. Linnea has an ACTION certification, an AAAI/ISMA Wellness Coach certification and a Physical Education teaching license. She has experience working with clients of all levels — as young as eleven and as old as eighty. She has a true passion for fitness and loves helping others improve their fitness and quality of life. Linnea has been coaching high school cross country and track & field for the past five years. She has been running since middle school and has completed twenty-one marathons and twenty ultramarathons.
Melissa has a degree in nutrition and psychology, certified through ACE as a personal trainer, TBMM Corrective Exercise, and a NBC- HWC. She enjoys facilitating others as they rediscover their personal strength and the joy of being active. She believes strength looks and feels different for everyone, by taking an integrative approach to well-being we can be mindful about how all areas of life impact our health outcomes. Melissa has always been active playing sports through college, earning a black belt in Krav Maga, running, hiking, practicing yoga, and willing to try almost anything. Recently, directing her focus on her passion of adaptive fitness. Melissa lives to support these clients see their potential, feel empowered, and increase confidence.
As a personal trainer since 2007, Justin helps his clients make fitness a part of their everyday routine. He holds a personal trainer certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He has a degree in Health and Human Performance from Roanoke College in Virginia, where he ran track. He is a native of Connecticut and lives in Brighton.
After a successful high-tech career, John followed his passion and pursued a career in fitness, getting certified in personal training and yoga. John coaches 18 weekly HIIT classes, dryland training for the Karishim swim team, high school basketball at Boston Latin School and AAU basketball. In the gym, John spends his free time lifting weights, practicing yoga and playing basketball; outside the gym, he likes to snowboard, mountain bike and hike. John has been a JCC member for over 20 years.
Annie recently graduated with a degree in Nutrition and Wellness from the University of New Hampshire. She is a certified personal trainer through the American Council of Exercise (ACE). From a young age, Annie has had a passion for sports and physical activity. She believes that exercise provides an outlet that is important for your overall mental and physical wellbeing. Annie has experience implementing nutrition plans as well as coaching strength and conditioning classes. Annie’s approach is to focus on the client's needs while having fun and exploring what works best for each individual. She believes that goal setting is an important factor for each individual’s fitness plan as it will help motivate and keep one accountable. Annie enjoys HIIT, strength training, and jogging outside.
Jiwen holds a B.A in Kinesiology. He is an ACSM certified personal trainer specialized in functional training and corrective exercise. Jiwen has serviced more than 15,000 sessions since 2007, and enjoys helping clients to reach higher fitness levels.
Margarita holds a degree in physical education from Riga College in Latvia and a personal training certificate from the University of Illinois (Chicago). She works with all age groups and is especially experienced in core strengthening, stability, flexibility, balance and functional training. She was the rowing world champion in women’s doubles for the USSR in 1981 and holds the Masters 40+ age group record in the single at the Head of the Charles.
