Creating Intergenerational Connections, One Program at a Time

At JCC Greater Boston, we value the unique and evolving role that grandparents play in the lives of their grandchildren. Grandparents offer a vital link between generations—sharing stories, values, history, tradition, and love that help children understand where they come from and who they are.

We design our programs with intention: to create joyful, meaningful opportunities for grandparents and grandchildren to connect, learn, and grow together. Whether through interactive experiences, cultural celebrations, or educational resources, we support families in nurturing these special relationships. Our goal is to strengthen intergenerational bonds and empower grandparents as active participants in their families’ Jewish journeys.

Please email PJLibrary@jccgb.org with any questions or feedback about our grandparents program.

18Doors: Grandparenting in an Interfaith Family

  • Being a grandparent is a unique joy filled with new experiences and lots to learn. 18Doors empowers people in interfaith relationships— individuals, couples, families and their children—to engage in Jewish life and make Jewish choices and encourages Jewish communities to welcome them.

The hands-on activities (at the JCC grandparent program) provided a real opportunity for our (interfaith) granddaughters (8 & 5 yrs old) to connect to Jewish traditions. We celebrate Shabbat with them as often as we can and using their new challah covers will only enhance their sense of connection to Jewish observance.

Exposure to and active participation in celebrating Jewish holidays with our grandchildren through fun, hands-on experiences…such as Chanukkah cookie decorating…making menorah’s…seems like a wonderful way to build Jewish identity.

Both my wife and I attended with our 5- and 9-year-old granddaughters. We all enjoyed the entire program. We sat with other grandparents and their granddaughter. Our granddaughters both saw friends from their public school. It was a really well done program and I am looking forward to the next one.
