Virtual Study Buddies provides families with experienced instructors with relevant academic and professional backgrounds. Each instructor has years of experience working with and teaching kids, and believe in the social and emotional wellbeing of our children. Instructors will keep kids engaged and on-track with school assignments, while breaking up their session with virtual games and movement to ensure their time together is rooted in activity, routine and connection. Instructors provide parents with regular feedback about your child to support a connected learning environment.
Looking to create pods for your virtual learning days? Virtual Study Buddies facilitates student pods based on classroom curriculum. As a pod, classmates talk through ideas, challenges, and offer encouragement while instructors provide positive feedback and individualized remote work support. Up to three children from the same class can sign up together for one, two, three or more hours per week for a six week session.
The Virtual Study Buddies program is extremely flexible, and we will work with you to accommodate your specific schedule.

Meet Our Expert Instructors
Ellie is a graduate of Brown University, where she received her degree in the History of Art and Architecture. She was a Group Leader in the JCC's Discovery After School Club and is currently a teacher for the JCC's Virtual Enrichment program, for which she has taught History of Activism, Introductory Spanish, and Tiny House Workshop, and will be teaching more new classes this fall. Ellie has a background as a one-on-one tutor for language arts, writing, history, and ESL, and has experience working with children on the spectrum, with attention challenges, and varying levels of anxiety. Her teaching method is focused on meeting the specific needs of each individual student, and ensuring that the students feel heard and supported. She is very much looking forward to meeting her new Virtual Learning Buddies!
Shirah is a graduate of Skidmore College where she studied Health and Exercise Science. She is a fluent Hebrew speaker and has taught English as a teaching fellow in Israel. She also served as a counselor and Sports Director at a Jewish summer camp in Pennsylvania for many summers. Shirah has worked at JCC Greater Boston for the last year as the Family Programming Coordinator and a Group Leader in Discovery After School Club. She has also taught many virtual classes to families in our community including Hebrew and Camp Activities. She is known and adored by hundreds of JCC kids!
A native Bostonian, Olivia Link began her dance training in high school at the Boston Arts Academy public high school for the visual and performing arts. There, she established her passion for dance; having opportunities to perform on mainstage venues such as the Shubert Theater and travel to Cape Town, South Africa for training. Olivia also earned a minor in kinesiology and her academic research has been published in Mason’s undergraduate research journal, which has given her a strong background in science and writing. Currently, Olivia works as a grant writer. Olivia has taught dance with the JCC both in person and virtually.
Kellie is a special education public school teacher with a BA from Regis College in Biology. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Education with a concentration in Special Education. She has experience working with children of all ages, including as a Science instructor for JCC Greater Boston's Virtual Enrichment Classes this summer and fall!
Amanda received a BA in Spanish and International Studies from the University of Michigan and her Law degree from Boston University. She taught English for a year in Israel to elementary-age children and volunteered in Michigan public schools. She loves to read and travel and is extremely passionate about refugee rights. She never misses a UMich football game!
Clio is studying at Brown University concentrating in Environmental Studies and Gender and Sexuality Studies with an emphasis on inequality and social justice. She has returned this semester to Providence after a year-long sabbatical spent backpacking in South America where she developed fluency in Spanish and fed her passion for adventure. Clio grew up in Colorado and is an active and adventurous person always looking for new places to explore and new ways to engage with her environment. Clio is curious, energetic, and creative, finding outlets in aerial and Latin dance, arts and crafts, and storytelling. Clio brings over six years of experience working with children of all ages, interests, and backgrounds and works to build a reciprocal relationship with both child and family. She is prepared to meet your child where they are, offering friendship, support, and compassion to them as students and people, engaging with them and their interests, and encouraging their self-esteem and self-awareness.
