JCC Karishim Swim Club

Update: The Age Group, Seniors, Senior Prep and High School groups are currently full.  The other groups have limited options.  We will contact you within one business day if you register for a program with space limitations.

PURPOSE: The JCC Karishim Swim Club is committed to developing strong values, building self-esteem, and enabling each swimmer to meet their competitive potential. Swimmers celebrate goals through teamwork and sportsmanship. Emphasis is on doing one’s best.

COACHES: Karishim is proud to offer incredible coach to swimmer ratios. Each lane has its own USS certified and experienced coach leading practice. Karishim’s experienced and enthusiastic coaching staff makes time for every child on the team.

REQUIREMENTS: All swimmers age eight and under joining Karishim must be able to swim one length of freestyle and backstroke. All swimmers age nine and over must be able to swim all four strokes. Age is determined by how old the swimmer will be on Dec 31 of the given year. Prospective swimmers must try out with the head coach prior to the beginning of the season. TEAM GROUPINGS

• Mini Karishim: For swimmers who can swim one length of freestyle and backstroke without stopping. Swimmers must also be able to kick one length of the pool in under 50 seconds. Practice will focus on head position and the kick used in all four of the competitive strokes. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 4-5pm. Swimmers are required to attend at least two practices each week.

• Junior Prep: For swimmers who can perform all four competitive strokes. Practices will focus on stroke technique, breathing, alignment, kicking, head position and turns. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 5-6:30pm. Swimmers are required to attend at least two practices per week. Dryland training will be held Monday-Thursday from 4-4:45pm. Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of one dryland training session per week.

• Junior: For swimmers who can perform all four competitive strokes with the appropriate turns with correct breath and hip timing. Practices will focus on developing race strategies, breakouts, starts, turns and finishes. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 5-6:30pm. Swimmers are required to attend at least three practices per week. Dryland training will be held Monday-Thursday from 4-4:45pm. Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of one dryland training session per week.

• Age Group: For swimmers who have a competent understanding of race strategy as well as a high level of stroke technique for all four of the competitive strokes. Practices will focus on developing a commitment to endurance training and speed training. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 6:30-8:30pm and Friday from 4-6pm. Swimmers are required to attend four practices per week. Dryland training will be held Monday-Thursday from 5:15-6:15pm. Swimmers are required to attend a minimum of one dryland training session per week.

• Senior Prep: For swimmers who have made a commitment to endurance training. Practices will focus on preparing swimmers for the Karishim Senior Group. Swimmers will be expected to be a positive role model in and out of the pool for other Karishim swimmers. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 6:30-8:30pm and Friday from 4-6pm. Swimmers are required to attend four practices per week. Dryland training will be held Monday-Thursday from 5:15-6:15pm. Swimmers are required to attend two dryland training sessions.

• Senior: For swimmers who demonstrate a passion for the sport and commitment to excelling. Senior level swimmers want to compete at the highest level possible. Requirements to stay in the senior group include: full practice attendance, demonstrated leadership abilities and a desire demonstrated through actions to reach full potential. Practices will focus on training the group to reach national level meets. Practice is held Monday-Thursday, 6-8:30pm and Friday from 4-6pm. Swimmers are required to attend all practices. Dryland training will be held on Monday-Thursday from 5-6pm. Swimmers are required to attend two dryland training sessions.

• High School: Swimmers will be placed in either the senior prep or senior team group during their time off from their high school season. These swimmers return to Karishim after their high school swim team commences.

Swim Meets: JCC Karishim Swim Club will participate in a wide range of competitive programs that provide appropriate challenges for team members of all abilities, from novice to elite. The meet schedule for Karishim will be released in September.

Season starts on August 30 for Age Group, Senior Prep, Senior and High School. The season starts on September 13 for Mini Karishim, Junior Prep and Junior.
