Personal training at the JCC is available in one-hour, 45-minute and 30-minute sessions. Multiple session discount packages are available. Discounts for training with two people are also available.
Meet the Personal Training staff
Since 1995, JCC members have enjoyed working with Audrey Edwards as a personal trainer and group fitness class instructor. An avid runner, spinner and fitness enthusiast, Audrey currently serves as the JCC’s Wellness and Fitness Director. Audrey is a certified spinning instructor, TRX trainer, functional training instructor and Well Coach. She is a trained STOTT Pilates instructor, and holds certifications in aerobics and personal training from AFFA (Aerobics and Fitness Foundation of America) and FRA (Fitness Resource Associates). Whether your goal is better health and fitness, a firmer body, weight loss or increased endurance, Audrey will help you gain strength and shape your body. She is CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) certified. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and lives in Newton.
Matt is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a degree in Kinesiology. He received his personal training certification through the NSCA in 2011 and has been ever training since. After years working at the YMCA, Matt now serves as JCC Greater Boston’s Fitness Director. He is passionate about helping individuals reach their full potential through health and wellness. Matt holds a TRX certification as well as a NETA Kettlebell certification. His main goal is for clients to feel better leaving the gym than when they arrived.
Debra is a life-long holistic health advocate, runner and personal trainer who is NASM (National Academy of Sports Medicine) certified and a graduate of the National Personal Training Institute. Currently serving as the Fitness Engagement Coordinator, she also holds certifications in TRX training and CPR/AED. Encouraging clients to identify real-life fitness goals and incorporating a functional approach to exercise and healthy living, Debra is passionate about helping individuals in every stage of life get stronger and improve their quality of life.
Bryan has been personal training and coaching since 1990. He has a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology and a Master's degree in Gerontology from University of New Orleans. He specializes in posture, movement patterns and injury rehabilitation/prevention. Bryan bases his training philosophy around intellegent aging, teaching clients to create a more resilient body so that they can recover, repair and restore themselves safely after surgey, an accident or a chronic problem — allowing them to feel youthful and healthy into the later years of life.
Michael began working as a personal trainer in 2002. He is a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association. His approach is to motivate and energize clients to improve their quality of life through improved fitness and to feel better about themselves. For maximum results, Michael develops a plan for each client that integrates the individual’s goals, personality, interests and fitness level. Michael has experience working with children, adolescents and adults with special needs. He grew up in Jamaica Plain where he currently lives.
Kim brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for health and wellbeing to the JCC. She is a certified personal trainer and group exercise instructor with experience working with various populations. Kim holds a degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Wellness from California State University Monterey Bay. She is a certified NASM personal trainer and holds a Medical Exercise Specialist certification to work with post-rehabilitation clients. Kim enjoys running, TRX and yoga.
Jennifer is an American Council on Exercise (ACE) certified personal trainer and is also certified in CPR and TRX training. She is an avid runner who has completed nine Boston Marathons. Jennifer believes in working with weights, cross training and eating healthy. All of these factors translate into her personal training style, encouraging people to have a positive, can-do attitude and reaching goals through a step-by-step process. She encourages her clients to have a great time and love what they are doing when training with her in the gym or taking one of her bootcamp classes. Jennifer grew up in Newton and now resides in Needham with her two daughters.
Audrey brings a wealth of experience to the JCC, having served as director of personal training and weight management at a local fitness center for eight years. She uses her skills as a teacher, motivator, cheerleader, confidant and coach to cater to her client’s goals, whether they’re in their teens or their 80s. Audrey is certified in personal training (ACE, ACSM), golf conditioning and nutrition consultation. She is a certified inclusion fitness trainer, allowing her to work with clients with special needs and disabilities. She lives in Chestnut Hill, grew up in Portland, Maine and graduated from Ithaca College. She enjoys competing in triathlons, practicing yoga and cooking.
Barry is a Certified Personal Trainer who enjoys working with physically challenged children and adults. He is an avid basketball player and combines motivation and support to develop practical training programs for his clients. Barry specializes in working with children or adults with self-confidence issues. He is certified
in personal training from Fitness Resource Associates and from the National Exercise and Sports Trainers Association. He has completed the cardiac rehab program at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and provides cardiac maintenance follow-up training. Barry has served as the director of the JCC’s Men’s Health Center since 1992 and has worked as a personal trainer here since 1998.
Jeannine is a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She holds personal training certifications through AFAA, AAAI/ISMA and the Institute of Human Performance, and is specifically certified in Functional Movement Screenings. She uses a functional approach to fitness with a strong focus on balance and stability. Jeannine believes exercise should be a fun and challenging time for her clients. She lives in Framingham with her husband and two daughters.
Joan is a certified personal trainer who has worked at the JCC since 2003. Joan enjoys working with people of all ages and abilities to create individualized workouts to help teenagers, adults and seniors achieve their fitness goals. She is a firm believer in a cross-training approach to keep workouts exciting and challenging. She holds certifications in aerobics and personal training from AFAA and FRA. Joan is CPR and AED certified and is a certified spinning instructor, group fitness instructor and TRX trainer. Joan’s hobbies include running (she has completed 15 marathons and 17 half-marathons), swimming and skiing. She lives in Newton.
Ana has been an athlete her whole life, playing soccer and basketball. She played basketball at the collegiate level. Ana graduated with a degree in Health Sciences from Hartwick College and is a certified personal trainer through AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Foundation of America). She has always had a passion for fitness and living a healthy lifestyle, including the impact of nutrition. She enjoys cycling, hiking and strength training.
Roman is a knowledgeable personal trainer with more than 5 years of experience in designing and monitoring exercise programs based on the needs, goals and abilities of his clients. His expertise encompasses knowledge of holistic health, kinesiology, and exercise physiology. He is an American College of Sport Medicine certified personal trainer, and he also holds an Israeli Wingate Institute personal, group and youth trainer certification.
As a personal trainer since 2007, Justin helps his clients make fitness a part of their everyday routine. He holds a personal trainer certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. He has a degree in Health and Human Performance from Roanoke College in Virginia, where he ran track. He is a native of Connecticut and lives in Brighton.
Margarita holds a degree in physical education from Riga College in Latvia and a personal training certificate from the University of Illinois (Chicago). She works with all age groups and is especially experienced in core strengthening, stability, flexibility, balance and functional training. She was the rowing world champion in women’s doubles for the USSR in 1981 and holds the Masters 40+ age group record in the single at the Head of the Charles.
Marianne has dedicated thirty-nine years to strength training and a fitness lifestyle. She considers herself to be a personal trainer in addition to a wellness coach. Marianne takes a holistic approach to training, looking at every component of a healthy lifestyle: mental-emotional, stressors, physical strength, proper diet, nutrition, hydration, rest and spirituality. Her certifications come from the International Sports Science Association: Master Trainer, Fitness Trainer, Corrective Exercise Specialist, Specialist in Exercise Therapy, Senior Fitness, Group Fitness, Youth Fitness, Sports and Nutrition and Strength & Conditioning.
After a successful high-tech career, John followed his passion and pursued a career in fitness, getting certified in personal training and yoga. John coaches 18 weekly HIIT classes, dryland training for the Karishim swim team, high school basketball at Boston Latin School and AAU basketball. In the gym, John spends his free time lifting weights, practicing yoga and playing basketball; outside the gym, he likes to snowboard, mountain bike and hike. John has been a JCC member for over 20 years.
Linnea has been training for ten years and providing nutrition and running services for seven. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from University of Maine Presque Isle and a graduate degree in Nutrition Sciences from UMass Lowell. Linnea has an ACTION certification, an AAAI/ISMA Wellness Coach certification and a Physical Education teaching license. She has experience working with clients of all levels — as young as eleven and as old as eighty. She has a true passion for fitness and loves helping others improve their fitness and quality of life. Linnea has been coaching high school cross country and track & field for the past five years. She has been running since middle school and has completed twenty-one marathons and twenty ultramarathons.
Leah is a sports and fitness enthusiast, playing basketball and lacrosse at the collegiate level. She attended the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth as a Business Marketing major. Leah is a certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Her approach to fitness is applying the right balance of strength training, functional training and cardio.
