For kids in grades K-8 who can play a complete game of chess

JCC Greater Boston invites kids in grades K-8 to compete in our Spring Chess Tournament! Enjoy an outdoor afternoon of fun and competitive chess with prizes, snacks and play. Between rounds, families are invited to chat with 1995 US Women's Chess Champion, Sharon Ellen Burtman, who will provide game analysis and learning opportunities for players throughout the day.

This exciting day is open to kids in grades K-8 who are able to play a complete game of chess in each of the rounds, regardless of level or experience. We will be out on our beautiful West Lawn for the afternoon, but will move indoors in case of inclement weather.

Check-in and Registration Opens at 11am. Rounds of play will be held at 12pm, 1:30pm, and 3pm with breaks in between for playing outside, connecting with other families, snacks, and learning with Sharon. All children will get to play in all three rounds.

Format: Unrated, 3-Round Swiss System; G/30 (30 Minutes Per Player).

Equipment: Please bring clocks and chess sets if you have them. 

Sections: K-4 and 5-8. Sections may be adjusted or added based on the number of players registered. 

Prizes: Trophies or medals to the top three players in each section. Special giveaways for all participans.

Registration: $18/player by May 22; $20/player after May 22 and at the door.

The J Cafe will be open and parking is free. Please bring Photo ID for check in at front desk. Open to all.
