Meet Your Expert Instructors & Staff
Joelle has been a part of the JCC Greater Boston community since 2012. Her three children attended the Godine Early Learning Center where she served as co-chair of the Parent-Teacher Connection before joining the JCC staff as an Account Director in the Marketing Department. As Head of Family Programming since 2019, Joelle enjoys connecting with families and supporting them with enrichment classes, birthday parties, special events, holiday celebrations, after-school programming, early parenting, and so much more. She graduated from Tufts University with a BA in Art History and ran local and national programming for adults, children, and families at several museums, galleries, and non-profits in Washington, DC, before moving back to the Boston area. She lives in Needham with her family.
Shirah is a graduate of Skidmore College where she studied Health and Exercise Science. She is a fluent Hebrew speaker and has taught English as a teaching fellow in Israel. She also served as a counselor and Sports Director at a Jewish summer camp in Pennsylvania for many summers. In her work at the JCC since 2019, Shirah has enjoyed teaching virtual classes in science and engineering, and connecting with hundreds of families for enrichment classes, birthday parties, Virtual Study Buddies, Discovery Club and more.
Sharon is the 1995 United States Women’s Chess Champion. Sharon attended Rhode Island College on a full chess and academic scholarship. She also competed in two Women's World Chess Championships. Sharon has over 30 years teaching experience, and was the keynote speaker at the Massachusetts Chess Association Education Expo in 2014 and 2015. She also performs an annual (multi-station) exhibition at the Boston Museum of Science. Sharon is looking forward to continuing her classes this season!
Ellie is a graduate of Brown University, where she received her degree in the History of Art and Architecture. She was a Group Leader in the JCC's Discovery After School Club and is currently a teacher for the JCC's Virtual Enrichment program, for which she has taught History of Activism, Introductory Spanish, and Tiny House Workshop, and will be teaching more new classes this fall. Ellie has a background as a one-on-one tutor for language arts, writing, history, and ESL, and has experience working with children on the spectrum, with attention challenges, and varying levels of anxiety. Her teaching method is focused on meeting the specific needs of each individual student, and ensuring that the students feel heard and supported.
HERO Kids Sports offers specialized sports instruction utilizing biometric exercises that will promote the development of gross and fine motor skills, coordination, balance and spatial awareness. Kids are taught sports fundamentals, sportsmanship, and the values of teamwork as well as the importance of nutrition and empowering healthy lifestyle choices. Children form positive habits that they will carry with them throughout their lives. "Inspiring the HERO Inside!"
Jammin With You! seeks to foster a lifelong love of music and arts by providing entertaining, modern, high quality music education to children and families. Jammin With You was founded in 2008 by master song-chef and professional goofball, Josh Shriber, as a way to share his love of music and contagious sense of humor with his family, friends, and community in the Greater Boston and New York areas. Jammin With You is an ever-growing family of musicians and teachers set on sharing the gift of music, performance, and creativity — all fueled by the music and inspiration of Josh & the Jamtones.
Halle's passion for dance began at a young age. As a child who often dreamed of starring on Broadway, Halle quickly fell in love with genres that bring dynamic movement, music and personality to people's lives. In the years since, Halle has designed, performed and choreographed for programs across universities, colleges, summer camps, and event companies in order to support dancers of all ages, backgrounds and abilities. Halle teaches all types of dance including international, hip hop, creative movement and more.
As an undergraduate Julie studied both Art History and English Literature at Ithaca College. After receiving her degree, Julie furthered her education at Tufts University, earning a Certificate of Museum Studies with a concentration in Museum Education. Julie went on to work in the Education Departments of both the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston where she created and implemented programs and public tours that helped visitors of all ages look at, think about, and discuss art. Julie is the mother of two children and is always working to find fun, new, and creative ways to introduce art and art history into their lives and believes it is never to early to start learning to look at and discuss art. She uses her enthusiasm and experiences to run Artful Playdates, an art appreciation program for kids ages 4 and up.
