Join the wonderful and skilled instructors of Powers Music School to understand and experience music through movement, story, and song, with activities rooted in the popular Dalcroze Eurhythmics method of learning. They listen to and participate in live music, translating their energy into percussion by stomping, clapping, and tapping. They learn basic pitch-matching and melodies, hearing and expressing the music with their voices. Keyboard basics may also be included.

Skills build up day by day until the final performance, where students showcase what they have learned in an operetta arranged by the faculty, the culmination of the goals they have worked towards as a group. Students play the overture themselves with percussion instruments, then sing, move, and act out the music through story (usually based on a familiar classic tale).

Students leave Kids Crescendo at the end of the session wanting to continue with piano, violin, voice, or even another instrument. It's a fun and creative way to feel the rhythm inside of them and start them on their music journey!

Classes will be held outside as often as possible. This class will move indoors in case of inclement weather and all participating children 2 years and older, adults and staff will be masked indoors at all times. If your child needs specific accommodations or if there is information you would like to share, please let us know so that we can support your family. Contact us at childrensclasses@jccgb.org.

JCC Greater Boston is proud to offer diverse programming serving populations that are still considered to be at risk, or are not yet able to be vaccinated. Anyone 2 years and older should continue to wear a mask indoors throughout their visit. Masks are not required in outdoor spaces. Our code of conduct still requires that you stay home if you are feeling unwell and/or have been exposed to COVID-19 and are not vaccinated. Regardless of your vaccination status if you prefer to wear a mask, you are welcome to do so.
