Assistant Director - Annual Campaign

JCC Greater Boston (JCC) is seeking a full-time, self-motivated Assistant Director - Annual Campaign.  Working with the VP of Development, the Assistant Director - Annual Campaign is responsible for coordinating events, communications and other key strategies that will help grow the JCC’s Annual Campaign. The JCC is looking for someone with a measurable record of accomplishment and the event management skills, enthusiasm, and knowledge of the Boston Jewish community to help the JCC achieve or exceed our fundraising goals.

As an integral part of the Development Department of the JCC, this position will help drive this Organization’s fundraising efforts, including supporting the execution of two major annual events, Our Campaign to Re-imagine the JCC, the JCC’s comprehensive capital campaign, and growing the Annual Campaign.

Essential Functions include:

  • Works with the Vice President of Development to align annual campaign, event goals, and overarching development strategies with larger JCCGB financial resource development objectives, including capital campaign, endowment opportunities, marketing materials and volunteer engagement.
  • Generates strategy to incorporate campaign objectives and messaging into large-scale annual fundraising events, including integrated Annual Campaign giving, donor stewardship and cultivation and capital campaign messaging. Works with the Development Events Manager to align strategic and logistical execution. Responsible for establishing and reaching individual event fundraising goals.
  • Identifies, cultivates, and solicits a portfolio of approximately 250 prospects and donors through meetings, targeted communication, and outreach. Sets specific metrics around increased giving, expanding the pipeline, and securing gifts of $1,000 or more.
  • Plans, facilitates, and attends all Development and event-related committee meetings.  Works with appropriate staff to organize attendance, logistics, agenda and materials preparation, meeting minutes and follow-up items.
  • Helps manage the operations of the Development department, with an eye towards data integrity and application to refining key communications, targeting and segmentation strategies.
  • Promotes a Development culture throughout the organization, identifying opportunities to both raise funds directly as well as imbue every aspect of the JCC with a philanthropic culture mindset.

Development Coordinator

JCC Greater Boston (JCC) is seeking a self-motivated Development Coordinator to join our Development team.  Reporting to the VP of Development, the Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Development Operations. The JCC is looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a measurable record of accomplishment and knowledge of Development, or similar (e.g. sales), systems and processes to help achieve or exceed our goals.

Essential Functions include:

Database Management

  • Use database to track visits, calls, solicitations, donor interests and other key information and extract information for team and individual needs
  • Improve and maintain data integrity by collecting and updating all key donor data, including foundation giving and gifts to other institutions
  • Improve organization-wide data integration for Development team, including collection of event and program attendance and coding for proper segmentation
  • Provide data on annual campaign progress and status, as needed

Gift Entry

  • Coordinate with Business Office to ensure that all gifts are entered properly in database
  • Inform Business Office of any special situations or specific instructions to comply with donor intention

Donor Correspondence

  • Coordinate weekly general and customized donor acknowledgement letters
  • Assist with other projects such as “in honor of” and “in memory of” cards
  • Assist with Foundation grant applications and reporting
  • File and maintain donor records, correspondence, and other relevant information
  • Prepare Development reports, in coordination with IT Department, as needed

Billing

  • Monthly billing of gifts
  • Track overdue gifts and report information to supervisor

Event Support

  • Support lead staff on annual Gala and Golf events, as well as other events as needed
  • Manage gift entry, tracking and acknowledgement
  • Perform other tasks as needed in preparation for events, committee meetings and individual solicitations

 General Administrative

  • Maintain Departmental calendar of activities
  • Generate and send weekly upcoming visits report to internal and external teams
  • Help set up meetings and make room reservations & food orders when needed
  • Assist with research and prepare materials for President/CEO and VP of Development in advance of key meetings and events

Qualifications

This position requires:

JCC Boston Diller Teen Fellows Program Coordinator

JCC Greater Boston seeks an experienced Jewish educator and independent self-starter to lead the JCC Boston Diller Teen Fellowship program an immersive experiential education program for 10th- 11th graders designed to inspire and promote leadership among Jewish youth.

Program Overview: The Diller Teen Fellows is an immersive experiential education program for 10th - 11th graders designed to inspire and promote leadership among Jewish youth. This International program began in San Francisco 21 years ago and has since expanded to include 16 international communities in the Diaspora and 16 Israeli communities. This is a full time position, reporting to the Director, Special Projects.

The program is sponsored by the Helen Diller Family Foundation, CJP and JCC Greater Boston. Over the course of the 12-month fellowship, Diller Teen Fellows focus on:

  • Jewish identity development
  • Leadership skills development
  • Israel-Diaspora connections
  • Community service and tikkun olam
  • An exploration of Jewish Peoplehood
  • Learning within a pluralistic environment

Currently, Boston is running this program for its tenth cohort of teens. Each year, twenty Diller Teen Fellows are selected and partnered with twenty Diller Teen Fellows in Haifa. The two groups participate in a parallel curriculum, which includes:

  • Twelve five-hour Sunday workshops
  • 2 weekend retreats Shabbatonim (retreats)
  • 2 full-day workshops
  • A ten-day spring seminar in Boston, during which the Israeli teens visit with their peers and learn about the Boston Jewish community
  • A three-week summer seminar in Israel that brings all teens (around the world) together for an intensive and immersive experience          

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Develop and lead scheduled workshops and retreats throughout the year in accordance with the Diller mission, vision, and goals
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to 20 program participants, 2 Junior Counselors, and a Program Intern
  • Manage the marketing, recruitment, interviewing and selection process for 20 participants for each upcoming program year
  • Design, co-lead, and supervise, in partnership with Israeli partner Coordinator, seminars in local community and in Israel
  • Ongoing curriculum development and program evaluation in coordination with Diller program guidance
  • Budget management with assistance from department head and administrative support
  • Active participation in local Diller Teen Fellows Advisory Committee meetings
  • Active participation in national and international conference calls and professional development seminars
  • Promote the program locally in collaboration with other local organizations
  • Engage parents of participating teens and local program alumni in focused ways that help them understand and contribute to the experience their teens are having
  • Plan and manage all logistics related to workshops and retreats, service learning projects, Israel education, and travel planning

Education or Training Equivalent to:

  • BA in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Jewish Studies, or related field; MA preferred
  • Experience developing and leading programming addressing Jewish identity development, youth leadership development, community service, and Israel education
  • Experience in experiential education, group facilitation, program development and/or management

Desirable Particular Qualifications (Skills, Abilities):

  • Proven success developing personal connections with and mentoring Jewish teens
  • Understanding of and appreciation for Israeli culture, preferably including extended time in Israel and at least a beginning-intermediate understanding of Israeli history, politics, and geography
  • Basic knowledge of Hebrew
  • Knowledge of the local Jewish community and prior experience working collaboratively with community professionals
  • Strong facilitation, education, organization, and communication skills required to effectively interact with, lead, and inspire a diverse body of teens, parents, community leaders and staff, as well as to effectively collaborate with partner agency staff
  • Administrative and management skills including budget management, scheduling, and communications management
  • Ability to collaborate in an international partnership and to work with and contribute to an international peer network of Diller Teen Fellow Coordinators
  • Availability to some work nights and weekends, including travel to Israel for 3 weeks during the summer as well as additional travel during the year to a variety of conferences and trainings

Building Maintenance Mechanic

JCC Greater Boston seeks a full-time Building Maintenance Mechanic at the Leventhal-Sidman Jewish Community Center in Newton.  Reporting to the Facilities Manager, this position will perform day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of facility and equipment as assigned, including building and swimming pool maintenance and repairs.

Position Requirements include:

  • Must work effectively with a team and independently as needed to support the group effort.
  • Work in extreme outside climate conditions for building and swimming pool maintenance and repairs.  Must be able to safely work with swimming pool chemicals.  Must have valid driver’s license and transportation.  Must have or be willing to obtain CPO certification.
  • Maintain and repair the building’s heating and air conditioning system.
  • Follow a preventative maintenance schedule for HVAC equipment.   Replace/clean filters, belts, motor bearings, dampers, controls, pumps, heating and air conditioning units according to schedule or as required.
  • Maintain and repair all lighting fixtures including emergency lighting systems.  Replace bulbs, tubes, sockets, lenses, and ballasts as needed. 
  • Inspect emergency battery units, and exterior and parking lot lighting on a monthly basis.  Replace units as needed.
  • Inspect pools and spas on a daily basis.  Adjust chemicals to maintain water balance and sanitation. 
  • Assist with the opening and closing of the outdoor pool facility.  Monitor outdoor pool conditions on a daily basis during summer months.
  • Maintain and repair all plumbing fixtures throughout building.
  • Order supplies, chemical and equipment and maintain stock in accordance with budget guidelines and with the approval of the Facilities Manager.
  • Schedule contractors for repairs and deliveries as approved or instructed to be the Facility Manager.
  • Perform snow removal duties as required during winter months.  Be available for after-hours for snow removal coverage.
  • Service all gas-powered equipment including snow blowers and generators.
  • Performs other duties as required by the Facilities Manager.

Position Requirements:

This position requires five years related experience and knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical repairs and general maintenance. Knowledge of swimming pools a plus. High School diploma or equivalent required. Must be self-motivated, reliable and service oriented. Must have the ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, which include carrying and climbing ladders; Working while standing on ladders; Work in confined spaces; Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting and kneeling; working in various temperature ranges including outdoors; Lifting heavy objects exceeding 50 lbs.

Part-time Experiential Educators

JCC Greater Boston seeks part-time educators for Discovery Club, starting fall 2018. Discovery Club invites kids ages 5-8 to connect with Jewish values and culture through skill-building activities that nurture each child’s specific interests. We are looking for experienced, talented individuals who can help kids make connections between Jewish life and the world around them, and are willing to be both teachers and role models. Principal Responsibilities:

  • Promote the JCC personal training program during fitness center orientations, fitness floor shifts and contacting interested members within 24 hours of receiving a lead.
  • Maintain a client base by selling new packages, and encouraging current clients to continue. Assist in development and implementation of new programs and classes.
  • Develop safe and effective exercise programs utilizing progression; programs are consistent with member's goals/needs and within the scope of your education and knowledge you currently possess.

Assistant Aquatics Director

The JCC of Greater Boston, located in Newton, Massachusetts is currently accepting applications for the position of Assistant Aquatics Director. This is a full-time 40 hour per week position reporting directly to the Aquatics Director.  The JCC provides a variety of programs and services to over 10,000 members and participants in the community. 

The work environment is very fast paced.  The Assistant Aquatics Director will assist with the overall management of the JCC’s indoor and outdoor pools. The Assistant Aquatics Director will be directly responsible for: hiring, training, scheduling and evaluating lifeguards; managing pool chemistry and will assist with all aspects of the JCC’s learn to swim program.

In accordance with the Organization’s standards, the Assistant Aquatics Director will take responsibility to provide excellent service at all times.  Candidates must possess strong management skills, great communication skills, and exceptional interpersonal/customer service skills.  

Position Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Recreation Management or related field preferred but not required.  A minimum of two years of experience in Aquatics management with a proven track record for success.  Current certifications:   American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, with First Aid included (or equivalent), American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer (or equivalent), Certified Pool Operator is preferred.  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Instructor preferred but not required.

Age Group Swim Coach:

Karishim Swim Club (KASC), a competitive swimming club in Newton, MA, is currently accepting applications for the position of Age Group Coach.  We are looking for a coach who is a dynamic team player and is excited to help KASC continue its growth in both size and achievement. Job Details:

  • Prepare practices on a weekly basis based on phase of training and swimmer’s needs/ability

Class Supervisor:

The Aquatics Department of JCC Greater Boston in Newton is looking to hire a Class Supervisor.  We are looking for someone with an outgoing personality who can provide excellent customer service.  You must be able to develop personal working relationships with members and be able to help and resolve member issues and concerns as well as check in the swim lesson clientele.  It is important that you are self-motivated, able to multi-task and are comfortable speaking to parents and children.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiating warm and friendly welcome to all clients entering the pool facility.
  • Be helpful, considerate and try to work out any issues.
  • Accountability for the physical appearance and overall organization of the pool, including station set-up, aquatics equipment, deck furniture, and station breakdown.
  • Have a thorough knowledge of and ability to communicate the particulars regarding the Swim Academy program to clients.
  • Taking attendance for each scheduled class.
  • Help monitor safety and act as “another set of eyes” at the pool.  Make sure you are hanging out near the lower levels. The children’s safety is always the most important responsibility.
  • Make sure that all children under the age of 3.5 wear a SWIM DIAPER, VINYL SWIM PANT AND A SWIM SUIT.
  • Give out skill stickers to the students.
  • Help facilitate communication between parents and the instructors or the office.
  • Maintain clear access around the pools.
  • Assist instructors to give the office any level changes.
