Welcome Baby! Meet-ups, Metro North

Panera Bread, First Wednesday of each month (year round) 11am-12:30pm

Designed for parents with babies ages 0-1 year
Meet other parents with babies, and enjoy a cup of coffee in a relaxed setting the first Wednesday of each month. Staff from the JCC and Jewish Family & Children's Services of Greater Boston will advise on area resources and upcoming programs. For more information, contact metronorth@jccgb.org or 617-841-8009.

Metro North Playground Meet-ups!

Parks North of Boston, Tuesdays, May 13-August 12 (10am)

Geared for children ages 0-5 with adult
Open to the entire community • Snacks provided

Directions to each location
Hodgkins-Curtin Park ~ Somerville (Davis Square)
This playground is located on Holland Street at Simpson Avenue and Paulina Street. There is two hour parking on Holland Street near the playground and a municipal parking lot on Holland Street at Buena Vista Road that takes credit card. The Park is a 5 minute walk from the Davis T Stop on the red line.
 
Whittemore Robbins Playground ~ Arlington
This playground is located behind the Robbins Library and the Whittemore Robbins House. There is a small parking lot beyond the library’s lot, with additional parking spots available on Mass. Ave. The #77 bus runs along Mass. Ave.
 
Rev. William Playground ~ Cambridge
This playground is located between Massachusetts Ave. and Rindge Avenue, on the cross streets of Dudley and Cedar in the North Cambridge area. There are parking meters on Mass. Ave. The nearest public transit is the #77 bus along Mass. Ave. to Dudley Street.
 

Preparing For Your Newborn

Jefferson Cutter House Gallery, Wednesday, July 30, 2014 (7-9:30pm)

For Expectant Parents
Learn the basic information you need in order to feel confident taking care of your newborn and set realistic expectations in this transition to parenthood so you can enjoy this very special time with your new little one. Topics that this workshop will cover are:

  • Basic infant care including swaddling, bathing , diapering, feeding
  • Soothing and settling techniques
  • Proper use of infant car seat/car seat safety
  • Finding Support in Your Community
  • Navigating visitors and family members

Instructor: Liz Marino. Liz has worked with babies and their families for 14 years- as a Child Care Coordinator, Parenting Educator at Boston Medical Center, and Program Director of Evelyn's House, a residential program for new teen mothers. Liz holds a Master's Degree in Family Support and Parenting Education from Wheelock College.

New Additions

For Second Time moms with babies 0-6 months

Ready, Set, Kids! A Family Enrichment Center, Wednesdays, September 10-October 15, 2014 (10-11:30am)

For second time moms with babies 0-6 moths.
You were already a mom but now you have a new addition! Come enjoy some precious one on one time with your new baby while sharing the challenges and joys of having two children. Led by a former Isis Parenting instructor, you will discuss strategies to juggle each family members' needs from sleep to feeding to childcare options to developmentally appropriate activities. Learn fun ways to have your children engage with each other and help foster their growing sibling relationship while enjoying the company of other moms adjusting to this new role.

Instructor: Liz Katzman - Liz has a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work and has worked in all types of settings with families and young children. Liz taught classes at Isis Parenting and led mom’s groups for Jewish Family and Children’s Services for the last six years. She also works as a NICU social worker at a local hospital. Liz has two elementary school age boys who teach her something new every day about being a mom!

New Arrivals:

For moms and babies ages 0-3 months

Ready, Set, Kids! A Family Enrichment Center, Wednesdays, September 10-October 15, 2014 (12-1:30pm)

 Designed for moms with children ages 0-3 months. 
Come share the journey of motherhood with other new moms in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment. Led a former Isis Parenting Instructor, the class covers topics such as soothing your baby, infant sleep patterns, tummy time, new roles and relationships, and includes interactive activities such as infant massage, finger plays and songs. Spend quality time with your baby and build a community of support and friendship to sustain you along your way!

For Moms and babies ages 3-6 months

Ready, Set, Kids! A Family Enrichment Center, Thursdays, September 11-November 6 (10-11:30am)

Designed for moms and babies ages 3-6 months
Continue to share the journey of motherhood with your growing, giggly, wiggly baby! Now that your baby is more alert and interactive, come experience new ways to engage and interact with them through songs, parachute play and other developmentally appropriate activities and toys. Led by a former Isis Parenting instructor, this class will also cover topics such as getting out and about with baby, feeding the family, safety and baby proofing, sleep, health and wellness. You will have the opportunity to learn more about your baby and how they are growing and developing while still receiving the support and friendship with other moms. Moms who have not participated in New Arrivals are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Little Movers

Ages: 9-12 months, with adult

Ready, Set, Kids! A Family Enrichment Center, Monday, September 15-November 24 (2-3pm)

For babies ages 9-12 months, with adult
This class focuses on play and developmental growth as baby becomes more confident in mobility and exploration. Led by a former Isis Parenting Instructor, a variety of activity stations are intentionally designed to engage babies while developing fine and gross motor skills and greater sensory awareness. Discussions will center around safety proofing, outdoor play, sleep and nap transitions, finger feeding and solids.

Instructor: Kristen Carhart- Kristen comes to the JCC from Isis Parenting, with fifteen years’ experience working with young families. She has worked as a Preschool Teacher, Child Development Educator, and a Pediatric Sleep Consultant. She holds degrees in Education and Psychology, and has EEC teaching certification. She is the parent of 2 young children.
