Special Needs Classes

Newton area, South area, Brookline and Metrowest, Throughout the year

Individuals with special needs are encouraged to participate in any mainstream or Inclusion and Support service offered by the JCC. Placement in appropriate classes is determined by the JCC Inclusion and Support Service staff. If you are signing up for a class for the first time, register by calling 617-558-6507/6508. If you have participated in previous special needs classes, please register online at www.bostonjcc.org/register.

The JCC offers financial assistance to those who qualify. If you are in need of financial assistance or a payment plan, or have questions regarding payment for registration, contact inclusion@jccgb.org. For more information regarding membership, registration, fee adjustment or special accommodations (e.g., locating an interpreter, accessibility, etc.) contact inclusion@jccgb.org or 617-558-6507/6508.

L'Chaim (To Life) Fun, Fitness and Community - Inclusion and Support Services - Ages 31+ - Fall

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/09/2014, End Date: 12/16/2014, Time: 7:00 PM-9:00 PM

(Ages: 31+ yrs) Socialize, dine out, work out in the gym, see a show! A group for adults with mild special needs. Group members decide their own leisure-time activities with the assistance of an advisor. Particpants pay for outside activities. Instructor: Trudy Bauer

Master’s Swim - 2014-2015

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/14/2014, End Date: 06/14/2015, Time: 7:15 AM-8:15 AM

(Ages: 19+ yrs) For adults who have an interest in improving or continuing to keep their competitive edge. Training includes a variety of drills to perfect stroke technique and challenging speed sets.

Men's Basketball League Over 40 "B" League - Fall

Preschool T-Ball - Ages 3-4 - Fall

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/14/2014, End Date: 12/14/2014, Time: 11:00 AM-11:45 AM

(Ages: 3-4 yrs) An introduction to the sport of baseball. Children will work on hitting, fielding, base running and sportsmanship. Children will learn all the basic rules and fundamentals of the sport. Will be held outside weather permitting. Peter Sylvester

Writing Picture Books - Adults - Fall

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/14/2014, End Date: 11/23/2014, Time: 11:00 AM-1:00 PM

Explore and discuss the distinctive qualities of picture books and writing for this genre! This class includes instruction on creating characters, point of view, and beginnings and endings. In-class workshops will be aimed to help improve voice and structure. Instructor: Julie Bliven

Super Soccer Stars - Age 2 yrs - Fall

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/14/2014, End Date: 12/14/2014, Time: 11:15 AM-12:00 PM

Dynamic international coaches work with children to improve their soccer skills and develop self-confidence and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive environment. Engaging warm-ups, activities and games, along with positive reinforcement and a low child-to-coach ratio provide an opportunity for each child to improve his/her soccer skills. Each child receives a free t-shirt. Super Soccer Stars staff (Ages: 2 yrs)

Super Soccer Stars - Ages 3-4 yrs - Fall

Young Adult Social Group - Inclusion and Support Services - ages 18-30 - Fall

(Ages: 18 - 30 yrs) Social, cultural and recreational activities for young adults with mild/moderate challenges. Includes a variety of leisure-time activities taking place within and outside the JCC, chosen by the group members with assistance from their advisors. Participants pay for outside activities. Junior FIRST LEGO League - Grades K-3 - Fall

LSJCC, Start Date: 09/14/2014, End Date: 11/02/2014, Time: 2:00 PM-3:15 PM

(Grades K-3) Children work as a team to make mechanized, programmed LEGO models. The team project will be presented to a Junior FIRST LEGO League Exposition (Date TBA). Team members learn about research, methodologies, motorized computer controlled LEGO and teamwork. Instructor: Einstein's Workshop staff
