FAQs

What is unique about the JCC Early Learning Centers?

There are several excellent Jewish early learning options in the Greater Boston area, but the JCC ELCs are uniquely flexible and family-centered, with scheduling options (including full day in most locations) and an emphasis on understanding and reinforcing the capabilities and strengths of each child. There are only a few Jewish NAEYC-accredited preschools in Greater Boston; the ELCs were among the first. Access to the many resources of the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston—including Jewish education, health and fitness consultation and facilities, camping and more—also make the JCC ELCs stand out in our community.

What is the educational philosophy?

A clear image of each child as capable and competent, despite differences and even challenges, inspires JCC ELC educators to promote and value individual strengths. In the classroom, children set the learning pace wherever possible—but educators observe them carefully, listen to their ideas, and design customized and challenging classroom experiences that correspond to their needs.

In this environment children are encouraged to explore their own ideas and not to be afraid of making mistakes. Self-confidence and self-image are developed through discussion and debate. Critical thinking is valued and encouraged. Learn more about the curriculum and educational philosophy of the JCC Early Learning Centers.

Do you have to be Jewish to attend a JCC Early Learning Center?

No. Although we emphasize Jewish values and learn about and celebrate Jewish traditions and culture, there are no expectations or requirements of background, belief or practice in the ELCs. Our student body includes children of many races and ethnicities, and all are equally welcome; in fact, we make a point of exploring our differences and the fullness of living in a multicultural world.

Do you have to be a member of the JCC to apply?

No. Family membership in the Leventhal-Sidman JCC is included in ELC tuition.

I am already a member of the JCC, can I receive a credit on my tuition when my child is enrolled at the ELC?

No.
