Helaine Katz, Assistant to the Director
Helaine Katz has a passion for Jewish education and a strong background in early learning. A teacher at local synagogues for more than 15 years and a member of the Acton ELC staff since 2003, she is also a seasoned communications and customer relations professional with a broad spectrum of marketing, communications and customer service experience. Before joining the JCC, she worked in marketing and communications for several Fortune 500 and start-up companies. She holds a BA and MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and is certified in Early Childhood Education.
Rebecca Epstein, Atelier (Art Studio) Specialist
Rebecca Epstein has more than 20 years of experience working with children in various school settings, from preschool to fourth grade. Prior to joining the ELC, she owned and opened Kids Create Preschool which specialized in open-ended, child-directed art programs; she brings this creative philosophy to the Atelier at Acton. Rebecca holds an AA in Art and continues to pursue her art education at the Fitchburg Art Museum, the Worchester Art Museum and at Worcester State College.
Julie Pennell, Ledgewood Developmental Specialist
Julie Pennell joined the JCC Early Learning Center, Wayland in 2009. She is a longtime early childhood educator who has worked in a variety of settings including early intervention, preschool and kindergarten. In her role at the JCC Early Learning Center, Julie provides support to children with physical, emotional or developmental challenges. Julie also provides advocacy for parents, helping to connect them with available community resources for both children and families. She holds a BA in Child Development from The California State University and studied Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Texas.
